The flights between Iraq and Bahrain will start very soon according to Captain Abdulrahman Al Gaoud who is the Under-Secretary for Aviation Affairs in Bahrain. Bilateral agreements between the two countries are being worked in the ongoing talks which have been underway for quite a few months now.

In the present economic downturn where most countries have seen a slump in growth of their aviation sector, Bahrain proudly announces a slower but still signs of steady growth. Although the global downturn has affected Bahrain also just like other countries in the world but the aviation sector has not posted any negative figures.

Flights to Iraq will play a major role in easing travel worries for thousands of mainly Shia pilgrims from Bahrain to the holy cities of Najaf and Karbala in Iraq. Although the security fears are downplayed by Bahraini aviation authority, it is undoubtedly on top of the list of concerns and the final deal may well have to be postponed until the situation on the ground is better assessed after the imminent US with drawl from Iraq.
